Met Geo Environmental has undertaken measured building surveys at a historic Yorkshire airfield which was the base for the RAF Eagle Squadron of US volunteers during World War II, and is now set to become home to a major film studio.
Following our survey, Screen Yorkshire, the agency which supports film and TV projects in the region, announced that it has secured the rights to develop the former RAF site in Church Fenton as ‘Yorkshire Studio’ which it hopes will deliver a significant boost to the region’s burgeoning film and TV infrastructure.
It intends to repurpose more than 100,000 sq ft of air hangar space which is currently home to Leeds East Airport, for film and TV use. In an exclusive deal with property investor Makin Enterprises, which owns the former RAF site, Screen Yorkshire is now able to offer the infrastructure and finance for a far wider range of productions.
A planning application has been now submitted seeking permission for the use of land and buildings at Church Fenton Aerodrome for commercial film-making.
