New Generation of Surveyors at Met

Met Geo Environmental has appointed two new surveyors to support current projects and future growth.

Matthew Wilby, 27, joins the company as a trainee surveyor after working on major oil and utility projects in the Wellington region of New Zealand as a graduate site engineer and site surveyor with Downer NZ.

The former Construction Management graduate of Leeds Metropolitan University started his career at the Castleford office of international construction and support services group, Interserve Project Services Ltd, where he gained valuable site experience setting out and supervising the placement of foundations, drainage, steelwork, masonry and road works.

He is joined at Met Geo Environmental by trainee surveyor Mohammad Vickas Alyas ,24,  who has worked as a Junior Architectural Technician in Manchester since graduating in Architectural Design & Technology and Property & Construction (HND) from The University of Salford.

“These young men not only bring bags of energy and enthusiasm to our team, but advanced technical skills that will be especially valuable to our data collection and presentation functions, “says Met director, Neil Harvey.

The Geophysics and Utility Mapping Department at Met Geo Environmental has also awarded a paid internship to 21 year old student Matt Gelsthorpe from Sheffield. Matt is studying Physical Geography and Geology at Keele University, with a strong interest in Geophysics and non-intrusive site investigations.

“The surveying sector still offers excellent career opportunities for motivated young people who enjoy working outdoors on a wide variety of site locations and projects,” Neil Harvey continues.

“We hope to offer Matt a taste of how our industry works and an invaluable experience to help prepare him for his final year and entry into the job market.”
