Congratulations to Met Consultancy Group surveyor Simon Chappell on winning West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network’s go:cycling Workplace Challenge for the greatest number of cycle rides made in September 2013.
Simon completed 76 rides that month, including the 20 mile round trip between his home and our offices in South East Leeds. In fact Simon’s pedals almost single-handedly powered Met Consultancy to the overall company award as well with 107 cycle rides logged by the firm during September. Other organisations winning go:cycling Awards included Leeds City Council, Emis and Towers Watson.
The go:cycling Workplace Challenge is one of the free travel initiatives offered by the West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network which supports organisations across West Yorkshire promote sustainable travel.
Participating organisations were also able to take advantage of free cycle training and maintenance lessons offered by the go:cycling initiative, delivered by Metro to encourage more people to cycle to work, a culture which has certainly taken off here at Met Consultancy. A few of our team now regularly commute to work on two wheels, including director Neil Harvey who has been covering 30 miles each day between his home and Met Consultancy Group offices.
Neil and Simon Chappell are in training for a 1200km marathon ride between West Yorkshire and Dordogne in France next summer in aid of the Charity, Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire (BTRS).
They are being joined on the ride by Allan Booth of Rance Booth Smith Architects in Saltaire, and Catherine Binstead of Switch Thinking Ltd but still hope to sign up a few more colleagues and associates in their bid to raise £10,000 for BTRS
We’ll be bringing you more news of the Met ‘Tour de Force’ in due course. A Just Giving Page has been created www.justgiving.com/Samuel-Harvey2 for donations so please help us get them off to a great start.
Meanwhile Simon has already got his sights set on taking on all-comers for the 2014 Workplace Challenge.
